Alfa Laval was one of our first customers and has a unique and innovative design process that we’ve had the privilege to further develop together.
The Need
As a leading provider of sustainable solutions within heat transfer, separation and fluid handling across a wide range of industries, Alfa Laval manages many customer–unique orders. With a strong ambition to stay at the forefront of technology, they have developed a system for automatically generating drawings. However, these drawings still required manual review by their experts. Alfa Laval therefore identified an opportunity to further automate their design process with our solution, enhancing efficiency while also relieving their designers of repetitive tasks.
Results and Added Value
We trained our AI review tool to detect everything from drill hole channels and deviations in title blocks to misplaced symbols. After a successful testing period, the review process was expanded with additional rules, and AI Review was integrated with Alfa Laval’s automated drawing generation system.
Today, every drawing automatically created in their system is immediately sent to AI Review for inspection. The review experts can then easily retrieve the drawing with highlighted errors and explanations. This process saves the experts considerable time and allows them to focus their valuable expertise on more critical tasks.
Tobias Bragsten, CAD System Developer, describes it this way:
“We have created support for the design department that can now quickly and easily view the results of AI-Review and in a future solution we will be able to automatically approve the documents that are already good enough for production and manufacturing. This is just the first step in quality assurance of our drawing production where we aim to check 10,000 new drawings a week.”
Looking Ahead
Alfa Laval has recently completed training in our new customer studio, which allows their geometry assurance experts to update the AI review tool with new rules and modify existing ones independently. The customer studio will increase flexibility for the review experts, making them not only specialists in their field but also experts in further automating the review process.
